Nichols Street Project Estimated At More Than $225,000

Plans are under way to proceed with the reconstruction of most of Nichols Street next year, completing a segment of the thoroughfare not covered by the funds currently available to the town. General Manager Walter Blasenak estimated that more than $225,000 would be required to reconstruct and resurface the entire road. Nearly $170,000 has been reserved for the work under a Chapter 90 undertaking, which involves funds provided by the state and county as well as the town of Norwood.

To complete the full segment, additional Chapter 90 funds would be needed. Members of the Board of Selectmen have suggested that the work be delayed until all of the necessary funds required for a complete job are available. Alternatively, the possibility of completing the job with funds appropriated entirely by Norwood has also been suggested. Walter Blasenak explained that he had forwarded a request to Norfolk County Engineer Wallace Carson for engineering studies of the proposed project.
