> Society Elections & Discussion of the Historical Dimension of Norwood’s Trails
Our upcoming meeting will feature a presentation by members of the Norwood Trails Advisory Group Joe Greeley and Lee Leach. The group is committed to educating, exploring, and encouraging the use of Norwood’s trails. They will share plans for the development of future trail networks in Norwood and we’ll discuss how this project can also draw attention to the rich history of sites like Shattuck Park, Hawes Brook and the Ellis Pumping Station.
Book Discussion, Thursday May 9, 7:00-8:30 pm at the Day House
> Fire in the Grove: The Cocoanut Grove Tragedy and Its Aftermath
Read and discuss John Esposito’s Fire in the Grove: The Cocoanut Grove Tragedy and Its Aftermath (2005). We’ll discuss the events that led to this infamous Boston tragedy of 1942, and and see items of this era from the society collection. Reception to follow. This event is free and open to the public. Please rsvp via this form to let us know you are coming. We want to make sure we set out enough chairs and bake enough coconut cookies for you all!
