Every morning, Norwood wakes up to a moment from its past- a civic milestone, a family triumph, a storefront opening, or a quiet turning point that shaped the town’s identity. Over the years, our “This Day in Norwood History” series has unearthed hundreds of these moments, sparking nostalgia, pride, and curiosity across generations.

In Part 1 of a two-part retrospective, we begin counting down the 50 most-read and most-loved entries of September- the stories that resonated most with our readers. These first 25 anniversaries stirred memories, honored legacies, and reminded us why Norwood’s history is worth celebrating every single day.

From dramatics on the football field to real-life heroics, local milestones, and unexpected community twists, this collection highlights the moments that shaped Norwood’s rich history. From a 1965 emergency airplane landing in the Sparks parking lot and an intense 1978 shootout at Andy’s Jewelers to historic victories by Mustang sports teams, church steeples felled by the Hurricane of ’38, and a hospital wedding standard routines couldn’t stop, these 25 top-read stories prove that Norwood’s past is full of grit, heart, and unforgettable character.
