St. Catherine’s Debonnaires, the 1961 Archdiocesan CYO champions, added the Eastern Massachusetts Association Prep Division championship to their long list of laurels in the Eastern finals Sunday at Memorial Field in Natick.

Competing against four other corps, including the vaunted Statesmen from Everett, this only all-girl corps on the field proved their class when they walked away with the top honors before a crowd of some 7,000 spectators.

The previous week the Debonnaires climaxed their CYO activities by winning the coveted Archdiocesan Championship at White Stadium after capturing the circuit championship.

The Debonnaires, who now have the distinction of having won both the CYO and Eastern Massachusetts circuit championships, number 59 in actual competition, ail girls about 14 years of age. Their director is the Rev. Francis Delaney.

Sunday’s competition, sponsored by the Eastern Massachusetts Drum & Bugle Corps Association; was the last of the season. Next year, it is expected that the Norwood girls will be moved up to Class A.
