This Day in Norwood History-May 9, 1963-Elizabeth Ann Guilderson Named Miss Coast Guard 1963

“THIS IS NEW YORK” — Elizabeth Anne Guilderson, Yeoman First Class, a SPAR in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and “Miss Coast Guard of 1963, listens attentively as her escort, Yeoman third class David Myers, USCG, points out the attractiveness of the New York skyline. Miss Guilderson was in New York last week to preview plans for her stay there during Armed Forces Week, May 11-19.

Miss Elizabeth Anne Guilderson of Norwood, a Yoeman First. Class in the United States Coast Guard Reserve (SPAR), has been selected as “Miss Coast Guard of 1963.”

Miss Guilderson was born in Boston on February 6, 1937. Following graduation from Norwood High School in June of 1955, she entered Cardinal Cushing College in Brookline and two years later was awarded an associates date degree as a medical secretary. She is presently employed as a private secretary for Walsh Associates, Inc., in Westwood.

On February 13, 1962, she entered the Coast Guard Reserve as a Yeoman First Class and since that time she has been assigned clerical duties with Coast Guard Organized Reserve Training Unit (Mobilization Detachment) 01-89011, at the Coast Guard Base, Boston.

She is 5 feet, 1/4 inches tall, weighs 94 pounds, has hazel eyes, brown hair, and wears a size 5 dress. She is 26 years old. She lives with her mother, Mrs. Irene Guilderson, at 245 Winter street.
