Kenneth McLean Celebrates His 13th Birthday

Kenneth McLean of 63 Plimpton Avenue celebrated- his 13th birthday at Marshfield last Sunday where he was tendered a party in ‘ a pine grove. The usual birthday cake, tonic, sandwiches and other goodies were spread upon a large tablecloth in the pine grove and Kenneth and the members of his family as well as several friends made merry for several hours as the happy occasion was celebrated. The journey to Marshfield- was made in three cars with Kenneth, by his own choosing, rumbling to the picnic ‘spot’

Barbara Keady Enters Convent

On Saturday, August 13, Miss Barbara Keady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Keady of Pine Street left for Alleghany, New York where she will enter St. Elizabeth’s Convent, Franciscan order of nuns, as a novice.

Miss Keady graduated with the class of 1937 of Norwood High School. Before taking her final vows, she enters a period of 3 years of study. One of Miss Keadys’ sisters is a nun in the same order at Jamaica, B. W. I.

The Norwood Knights of Columbus, with members of the Pere Marquette Council of South Boston, enjoyed their annual outing at Elks Park on Sunday. Sports, a banquet, and an entertainment featured the program at the yearly frolic.

Friends of Marion Elliot gave her a big surprise party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Elliot of Hawthorne Street, on Saturday night. –
Marion walked in at 9 O’clock to a party of merry-making young folk, where the table was decorated with a large birthday cake, in honor of her 20th.

To Attend Conference

Mrs. Thomas U. Mahoney, lecturer of the Norwood Grange, and Mrs. Minnie Cottle, past lecturer, will leave on Monday for the five-day conference for Grange lecturers which will open Tuesday in Orono, Maine. They will make the trip by car.

Norwood High Class Of 1913 Has Gala Reunion At Minot

Mr. and Mrs. Keneth Skolfield were hosts to the Class of 1913 of the Norwood High School at its 25th reunion at their summer home in Minot. Twelve of the twenty-five members of the class were in attendance. Mr. Austin Fitts, who was the Superintendent of Schools at the time the class of 1913 was graduated, and who now lives in Natick, and Mrs. Fitts were guests of honor.


The members who attended were Mrs. Emily Skolfield, Mrs. Alice Baker, Miss Mary Cronin, Mrs. Marion Coughlin, Mrs. Gertrude Fleck, Mrs. Florence Tuell, Mrs. Betsy Zacks, Mrs. Laura Ryan, Robert D. Metcalf, John Wheelock, and Joseph S. Crowley. Mrs. Joseph Crowley was the only other guest.
In the evening the group went to Hugo’s where they enjoyed a shore dinner. John Wheelock entertained with the piano and accor-dian while the rest of the group sang. Mr. Wheelock is the composer of the present Norwood High School song, “There’s A School On The Hill Called Norwood.”


At the dinner Mrs. Skolfield read letters from various members who are located out of the state even as far away as Texas and Montana. One letter was received from Nathaniel Cutter, then principal of the High School, who stated that he is now retired. He was principal of Athol High School until this summer.


Mrs. Alice Baker came all the way from St. Louis, Missouri, to attend. Each person was given a leather key-trainer and plans were made for future get-togethers.

The Badger family of Clapboard Tree Street left Wednesday for a family reunion in Williams Town, Vermont.

Wilson Group Enjoy Social

The Wilson Improvement Association held their regular meeting and social at the German Workmen’s Hall on Wednesday evening.
Plans were completed for the Field Day to be given the children of the district who are without a playground, and Thomas Kerr spoke briefly on his candidacy for representative.


Beano, dancing and refreshments were enjoyed until a late hour. The committee in charge of the evening’s entertainment were: Miss Grace Elisha, Miss Adeline Eckhardt, Mrs. Michael Sansone, Mrs. Gunnar Carlson, Raymond Green. Edward Eckharat, 91phonc Wislalis, and Leonard Keeler.

Norwood Girl Wins a Trip to Provincetown


Miss Thelma Haynes, of 853 Washington street, in Norwood, was one of the recent winners of the Yodeling Cowgirl Song Title Contest, conducted by Georgia Mae, the Yodeling Cowgirl, —her three weekly programs over WORL, on Monday and Wednesday at 3-45 p. m., and on Saturday at 10-45 a. m. Georgia Mae does not announce the titles of any of the songs that she sings on her program, and the person sending in the most correct list of titles, is awarded with two round trip tickets to Provincetown on the S S. Steel Pier. Miss Haynes wa# the winner of one such prize.
