Vernon Park Development Showcases Modern All‑Electric Homes on Vernon Street

NORWOOD — A new residential neighborhood is taking shape on Vernon Street, where Vernon Park, a group of all‑electric homes being built by Nelson Bouchard, is rapidly becoming one of the town’s most attractive modern housing developments. With its rolling country views, wooded surroundings, and proximity to the center of town, the location has already drawn considerable interest from prospective buyers.

Two homes—a Cape Cod and a Colonial—are nearing completion, and foundations for a third house have already been poured. The development reflects Bouchard’s twenty years of experience in the construction field, combining the most desirable features of several architectural designs into compact, efficient, and affordable homes.

Despite their modern conveniences and thoughtful layouts, the houses are priced under $6000, a figure made possible by careful planning and efficient use of space.

Recessed Radiators and Smart Interior Planning

One of the standout features of the Cape Cod model is its recessed radiation system, a welcome innovation for homeowners long accustomed to arranging furniture around bulky, protruding radiators. By setting the radiators flush with the walls beneath the windows, Bouchard has created rooms that feel more open and spacious.

The first floor includes a large, light‑filled living room, a sizable dining room, and a spacious kitchen. Upstairs, a tiled bath and three well‑arranged chambers offer ample closet space. Built‑in drawers in the bedrooms further maximize storage and eliminate the need for excess furniture.

Attached Garages and Efficient Lot Layout

Each home includes an attached garage, designed to conserve yard space on the sixty‑foot lots now being laid out. The garage connects conveniently to the back entry and can also be reached from the cellar—a design that allows the garage to share heat from the home’s system. An unfinished room above the garage may be used for storage or finished later as an additional room.

While the two Cape Cod homes will feature steam heat with oil burners, the Colonial model will be air‑conditioned, offering a level of comfort and modernity not yet common in mid‑century suburban homes.

A Setting of Natural Beauty

The Vernon Park location is one of its greatest assets. The homes overlook woods and rolling countryside, offering views rarely found so close to a town center. White Mike’s playground and park, located next door, ensure that the area will retain open space and a sense of unspoiled country.

Adding to the development’s appeal is the installation of underground electrical service, eliminating the clutter of overhead wires and poles and preserving the natural beauty of the neighborhood.

Despite its rural charm, Vernon Park remains within easy walking distance of downtown Norwood, making it an ideal blend of convenience and country living.
