Two Newton men who were captured at gunpoint in Perrell’s Restaurant early Saturday morning by alert Norwood police, and a companion who drove away from the scene when the police approached and was arrested later at his home, were each held in $10,000 bail by Judge Gilbert W. Cox and their cases continued until Friday in the Dedham District Court yesterday morning.

Credit for capturing the men goes to Sergeant Thomas McNulty and rookie Patrolman Frank Walsh who surprised the two men allegedly in the act of looting Perrell’s on Route 1 near Everett street and placed them under arrest.

Handcuffed and taken to the Norwood police station, the men gave their names as Walter H. Wilson, 22, of 147 Edinboro Street, and Thomas F. Boudrot, 24, of 37 Evergreen avenue, both of Newton.

Questioned by police, the pair also admitted a break at the F&H Clam House on Route 1 south of Dean Street where police found that a cigarette machine had been rifled and the com box also broken into. The pair finally admitted that they had had an accomplice working with them who drove away with their get-away car when the police found them at Ferrells. The car had been parked on Everett Street. As the result of information given by Wilson and Boudrot, the Newton police were notified and in a raid of a home on Commonwealth Avenue in Newton took into custody Paul V Carnel, 23, who the police allege was the man at the wheel of the getaway car. In the trunk of the car in his garage. police said they found a quantity of cigarettes allegedly stolen from the clam house, and also four detonation caps. The police also revealed that they found three 25- caliber bullets in the pocket of Wilson’s coat but have been unable to locate a gun which they believed one of the men hid on the approach of the officers.

Sergeant Thomas McNulty and Patrolman Walsh were making a routine check of the business establishments along Route 1 when they found the front door of Perrell’s open. Sergeant McNulty entered the front door with drawn gun while Walsh entered the rear door which was found smashed. Wilson and Boudrot were found hiding in a booth.

When word of the arrest of the men was sent out over the police teletype system, the police of Wellesley, Needham and Newton came to Norwood to question the men, and additional charges of breaking and entering in the nighttime and larceny arc expected to be lodged against them by the police of those towns. Before being arraigned in the Dedham District Court, the men were fingerprinted by Chief Lydon. After their continued hearing set for Friday, the men will be held for the April session of the Norfolk County Grand Jury.
