On July 16, 1985, eleven talented students from the Norwood School of Ballet departed for New York City alongside their director, Kathleen Farmer, to participate in two prestigious national championship competitions.
The group has seen significant success in regional events, with three dancers—Kristen Lyons, Lynne Callahan, and Tricia Plasko, all hailing from Norwood—placing first in the Dance Educators of America regional competitions, thereby earning their qualification for the national finals.
In addition to these competitors, three other dancers from the school, Sandra Berry, Jennifer Flynn, and Christina Kurzhals, also of Norwood, were selected to perform Tchaikovsky variations in the National Dance Caravan Competition. The Norwood School of Ballet provides formal dance instruction to students beginning at age four and up, and this trip represents a significant opportunity for these young dancers to showcase their rigorous training on a national stage.
