In just two hours and forty minutes, Norwood Town Meeting members completed all 17 articles on the warrant, approving a record-setting municipal budget of $10,628,137.

The only extended debate of the evening centered on a proposed raise for school custodians. After an hour of discussion, the 7% increase recommended by the School Committee was voted down in favor of a 5% raise backed by the Finance Commission.

Another article, introduced by Selectmen Chairman John A. Abdallah, proposed dividing Norwood’s single voting precinct into multiple precincts. That measure was rejected.

The new budget is expected to raise the town’s tax rate by $9, bringing it to $75 per $1,000 of assessed value—up from last year’s rate of $66.

A separate special session containing five additional articles, including two controversial voting measures, was postponed until Wednesday.
