Thousands of residents turned out last night as a little bit of Boston’s North End came to town for “Italian Night,” serving as a marquee highlight of Norwood’s ongoing Summerfest series. Attendees packed the area to enjoy authentic Italian food—including sausages, pizza, and fried dough—prepared and served by the Norwood Sons of Italy, which co-sponsored the vibrant evening of music, food, and dance alongside the Norwood Arts Council.
Members of the Sons of Italy kept the grills fired up, with participants like Tony Cintolo, Harry Barlinsky, and Joe Bernasconi hard at work cooking sausages.
Across the common, younger attendees like 2-year-old Shawna Young and Andrea Parishi enjoyed dancing on the streets near the town common as evening concerts played out under the sunset.
“This was the largest crowd we’ve had all summer,” remarked Civic Center Recreation Director Gerry Miller, who served as master of ceremonies for the festivities. “The ethnic nights always seem to bring out the crowds.”
People filled lawn chairs, lined curbsides, and gathered on the grass across the Norwood Town Common, socializing with neighbors and soaking in the lively atmosphere. The Cosmos band entertained the massive audience by blending traditional Italian music with contemporary hits that appealed to younger generations, while members of the Sons of Italy, dressed in traditional Italian costume, performed a series of cultural dances.
