Rev. Robert McAleer of Norwood Dies

NORWOOD. Oct. 25, 1940—Rev. Robert E. McAleer. 38, curate of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church for the last 12 years, died today at the Norwood Hospital.

One of the most popular curates the church ever had, Fr. McAleer organized the St. Catherine’s Fife and Drum Corps which for the last two years has won the Cardinal O’Connell trophy as being the best in the Boston diocese. He also organized St. Catherine’s Junior High School baseball team and each year directed the church carnival.

Born in Somerville, he attended Boston College and St John’s Seminary. He was ordained in 1928 and came to Norwood the same year.

He is survived by a sister, Sister Bertrandra, a member of the Dominican Order, who is stationed in Lincoln, Neb. The funeral will be held Monday at 10 a. m. at the church, where a solemn high mass of requiem will be celebrated by the pastor. Msgr. Joseph Walsh. LCD., Deacon will be Rev. Russell T Haley of the Church of Our Lady Help of Christians, Newton, and subdeacon will be Rev. Edward T. Dunne of St. Catherine’s Church. Lawrence. Rev.
