Plan 4 Classes Daily Daily During Summer

Registration At The Civic June 19-20

The Recreation Department announced a full summer program of swimming instruction at Hawes Brook Pool, opening the season to both beginners and experienced swimmers. The department emphasized that the schedule was designed to accommodate anyone seven years of age or older, offering a structured opportunity for non‑swimmers to learn the fundamentals while giving practiced swimmers a chance to strengthen their skills.

Instruction will take place during morning hours throughout the summer, with classes taught by Miss Elizabeth Corcoran, who holds an Instructor’s Certificate from the American Red Cross. She will be supported by the pool’s lifeguard staff, who will assist in supervising and guiding participants. The program has been organized into four distinct levels — Beginners, Intermediates, Swimmers, and Advanced Swimmers — and each individual will be placed according to demonstrated ability. As swimmers complete the requirements of a given level, they will move to the next, receiving the appropriate Red Cross Certificate as they advance.

Later in the season, the department plans to introduce Junior and Senior Lifesaving courses. These sessions will also follow Red Cross standards, and those who successfully complete the training will receive official certification.

Registration for all classes is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, June 19 and 20, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at The Civic. The department noted that enrollment must take place on those dates, as no late registrations will be accepted. After signing up, participants will be notified by mail regarding their assigned class and level.
