TOWN ACCEPTS LAND FOR A PUBLIC PARK
The town has voted to accept a gift from Mrs. Emma L. Shattuck of a large tract of land In the vicinity of Winter St, to be devoted to the uses of a public park. The land, which comprises about 10 acres, was given by Mrs. Shattuck with the request that it be known as the Shattuck Memorial Park, in memory of her husband, the late Edward J Shattuck.
Mr. Shattuck was formerly very prominent in this section and was one of the principals in the organization of the Morrill Ink Works. The Shattuck School is named in his memory.
The town voted to name the park in accordance with the donor’s request, and it will be set aside for recreational uses. This land is near the site of the proposed new senior High School building for which the construction details are now being arranged.
