The first seeds of hockey for Norwood High were sown last Saturday morning when the Norwood High School Independents faced Canton High School. The Cantonites barely eked out a 3-2 win in the new and well-equipped Canton Corner Club rink. It was a fast, thrilling, well-played game, which had the players on their toes every minute.

The Norwood team was directed by Chubby Blasenak, Freddie Ransow, and goalie Bob Weiesman played admirable games for the locals. Weiseman made some fine stops and Ransow did some hard and fast skating and back-checking during most of the game, and scored one of the goals. Jim Hawley, who played a great game at right wing, scored the other Norwood goal.

Many of the Norwood high school basketball players graced the Norwood lineup: Slicker Mattson, Ed Costello, Ed Krasauskas. Others who played in the game were Leslie Greene, Paul Bernier, Albert Billingham, Francis Surette, Louis Manninen, Bernard Blasenak.

Canton-Norwood Return Hockey Game Tomorrow Morning

The newly-organized Norwood High School Independents will play a return hockey game with the Canton High School ice squad tomorrow morning at the new Canton Corner Club rink.

Members of the Norwood team feel that they can take Canton in the return set as they will be more familiar with the back-boards. The Norwood lads had never played within an enclosed rink before, and they became confused when it came to playing the puck off the backboards, a significant art in hockey.
