Curtain Timers Ready “The Patsy” for Weekend Premiere

Norwood’s new theatrical group, the Curtain Timers, is set for its premiere production of The Patsy this Saturday and Sunday at the Norwood Junior High Auditorium. Directed and produced by Lee Salonen and Linda Earle, the three‑act comedy features a large local cast including Grace Sansone, Louise Reardon, Janet Murphy, Joseph Haggerty, William Verrochi, Donald Leavitt, and Elwin McNutt.
Freeman Chadbourne designed the elaborate set, with extensive backstage support from more than twenty volunteers. Proceeds benefit the Shattuck School PTA.

Thrift Shop Overflowing with Spring Donations

The Thrift Shop reports its best stock in months thanks to contributions from the Baptist and Swedish Lutheran rummage sales. Shoes, sweaters, coats, dresses, baby clothing, a kerosene lamp, hats, and books fill the shop.
The truck collects every Wednesday; residents may call NOrwood 7‑2991 to schedule a pickup.


Winslow‑West PTA Plans Final Meeting of the Year

The Winslow‑West PTA will hold its final meeting of the 1952–53 year on Tuesday, April 28 at 8 p.m. at Winslow School.
Speakers include Dr. Valmore Pelletier on cancer detection, a Red Cross representative on gamma globulin for polio, and Miss Mary Canning, R.N., on the school health program. Elections and refreshments follow.


Peabody Students Attend Metropolitan Opera

Students from the Henry O. Peabody School attended three Metropolitan Opera productions in Boston this week. The school subsidized part of the ticket cost to encourage participation. Academic and art classes prepared students with lessons on Carmen, Aida, and Rigoletto.


“H.M.S. Pinafore” Coming to Walpole High

The Neponset Choral Society will present H.M.S. Pinafore on May 19 and 20 at Walpole High School. Tickets range from 75 cents to $1.50.
Following last year’s success with The Mikado, the group expects another strong performance.


Weekly Junior High Dance Friday Night

The Recreation Department’s weekly dance for junior high students will be held Friday from 7:30–10 p.m. at the Civic. Charlie George and his Orchestra will provide music. Admission is 25 cents.


St. Catherine’s Thanks Supporters of Card Party

Mrs. John J. McCarthy and her committee thank all who supported the April 15 whist party and cake sale for the St. Catherine Building Fund. Members may return ticket proceeds through April 28.


Norwood–Norfolk Orchestra Concludes Season

The Norwood–Norfolk County Orchestra closed its 1952–53 season with concerts at Saint Coletta’s School in Hanover and the Massachusetts Hospital School in Canton.
The Recreation Department is seeking a new director for next season following Professor Jean V. Dethier’s retirement.


Footlighters’ Spring Comedy “Two Blind Mice” Praised

The Walpole Footlighters’ dress rehearsal of Two Blind Mice drew enthusiastic praise. Lynda Earle and Dot George star as the “two blind mice,” with Phil Waechter, Alyce Whedon, John Ryan, Bill Broadley, and others rounding out the cast.
Performances run April 23, 24, 25, 30, and May 1–2.


Workmen’s Benefit Fund President to Visit Norwood

Ernest F. Muck, National President of the Workmen’s Benefit Fund of the U.S.A., will visit Branch 121 on Sunday, May 3. A meeting, Q&A session, and catered dinner are planned.


Women’s Community Committee Offers Lifeguard Scholarship

The committee met Monday at the home of Mrs. Arthur Rogers and will sponsor a scholarship for Recreation Department instructors to attend the aquatic school at Camp Kiwanis.
The annual Jamboree will be held June 10.


Miss Mildred Kijanowski Engaged

Mr. and Mrs. John F. Kijanowski announce the engagement of their daughter Mildred Barbara to Robert Monroe Brown of Hempstead, Long Island. A June wedding is planned.


Mrs. John G. Rizzo Invited to Wellesley Lecture

Mrs. Rizzo will attend a lecture on “Soil and Nutrition” by Lady Eve Balfour at Wellesley College on April 28, followed by a tour of the greenhouses.


Wellesley Young Republicans to Attend Norwood Meeting

The Wellesley Young Republican Club will join the Norwood Republican Town Committee at Holman Hall tomorrow night to hear Governor’s Councillor Charles J. Gabriel.


Baptist Group to Present “Mr. Beane From Lima”

The Kum Dubble Klub of the First Baptist Church will stage the three‑act comedy on April 28 and 29. The cast includes Dorothy Bemis, Carrie Barbagglia, Carl Johnson, James Hunter, and others.


Final Woman’s Club Coffee Hour Tuesday

The Norwood Woman’s Club will hold its final Coffee Hour on April 28 at the Morrill Memorial Library. Members will present a reading of a current play.


Covi Club Meets Tonight

The Covi Club will meet at the South Norwood Memorial Library at 8 p.m.


United Church Food Sale Saturday

The Youth, Junior, and Children’s Choirs of the United Church will hold a food sale Saturday from 2–5 p.m. Proceeds support new music, vestment improvements, and the youth choral program.


Historical Society Annual Meeting April 30

The Norwood Historical Society will meet at Day House next Thursday at 8 p.m. Professor W. Linwood Chase will lecture on “Along the Waterways of Holland,” illustrated in Kodachrome.


Girls’ Drama Group Attends “Hansel and Gretel”

Thirty girls from the Recreation Department’s drama group attended the Boston Children’s Theatre production of Hansel and Gretel.


Marie Ann Masce Weds Francis Stirzaker

Miss Marie Ann Masce of Norwood married Francis John Stirzaker of Readville on April 12 at St. Catherine’s Chapel. A reception followed at the bride’s home.


Women of the Moose Celebrate 13th Anniversary

Norwood Chapter 408 marked its anniversary with a fried chicken supper at Ma Glockner’s in Bellingham. Edith Sistare, whose birthday falls on the same date, received gifts and a cake.


Marie Christine Knoll Weds Russell L. Moreshead

Miss Knoll and Mr. Moreshead were married April 18 at Grace Episcopal Church. A reception followed at Workmen’s Hall.


Miss Jeanne Hurley Weds Arthur Berteletti

Miss Hurley of Sharon married Arthur Berteletti of Canton at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. A reception was held at the Bell House.

Miss Kessler of Canton married Kenneth Eugene Cummings of Hartford at St. John the Evangelist Church. A reception followed at the Bell House.


Canton Rotary Hears Talk on Norwood Community Chest

Arthur Wilson of Norwood addressed the Canton Rotary on the structure and purpose of the Norwood Community Chest, emphasizing its local control and low overhead.


Sharpe Granted Water for Westwood Houses

After discussion, Norwood Selectmen voted to allow water service to two houses on Thompson Avenue, Westwood, while reaffirming their policy against further extensions.


Red Cross to Hear Dr. Carolan on Gamma Globulin

Dr. James F. Carolan will speak April 27 at Day House on the use of gamma globulin to reduce the crippling effects of polio.


Frank’s Food Center Exhibits at N.E. Home Show

Cub Scout Pack 43 Plans Food Sale and Arena Event

Pack 43 will hold a food sale April 25 at Sam’s Auto & Appliance Co. The pack will also participate in the May 25 Cavalcade of Scouting at Norwood Arena.


Clothing Crusade Begins April 27 in Norwood Schools

Students will collect warm clothing, shoes, and baby garments for Save the Children Federation’s national drive. Superintendent Lynch encourages all residents to participate.


Norwood Council Honors Fr. Griffin

A large gathering attended the Knights of Columbus dinner and reception for Fr. Christopher P. Griffin, now State Chaplain. Grand Knight John L. Griffin thanked all who contributed to the successful event.
