Early on the morning of July 10, 1973, a fire of “suspicious origin,” possibly linked to vandalism, caused approximately $2,000 in damage to a lawn shed located behind 429 Neponset Street. The structure, which had formerly been utilized as a kennel by the owner, Mrs. Helen Tierney, contained a variety of tools, lawn mowers, and a desk radio.

The Norwood Fire Department responded to the scene with two fire engines and a ladder company after the structure was reported to be fully engulfed in flames. Deputy Fire Chief Robert Stanton oversaw the response, and crews spent nearly an hour extinguishing the blaze. The fire was slated for investigation by Norwood Fire Chief Irving J. Dobson.
