Mother Gets Word Of Son’s Death On Her Birthday

Sgt. Edmund Bochanowicz, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bochanowicz of 14 Hartford Street, Norwood, was killed early this week in a bomber crash near Gowen Field, Idaho.

Enlisted in the United States Army within a week after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, Sgt. Bochanowicz was a graduate of Boston Trade School and had been employed at Bird & Son’s before his enlistment. He was in the ground crew of the Air Corps.

His mother received news of her son’s death on her 50th birthday. Besides his mother and father, Sgt. Bochanowicz leaves two brothers and a sister. One brother, Henry, is in the United States Army. The other brother, Alphonse, was called for Army examination this week but was not required to report following receipt of news of the tragedy.

At time of going to press, funeral arrangements were not completed as word was waited at the Warabow Funeral Home from the Army station.
