Annual Meeting Highlights Auxiliary Fundraising Success and Volunteer Contributions
During its annual meeting last week, the Norwood Hospital Auxiliary presented hospital administrator David P. Buchmueller with a generous check for $40,000, raised through auxiliary fundraising endeavors over the past fiscal year. Auxiliary President Jeanne Flint formally presented the funds, which will be dedicated to purchasing advanced ultrasonography equipment for the hospital’s radiology department.
Buchmueller praised the auxiliary’s dedication and explained the immense diagnostic value of the new technology. Operating via high-frequency sound waves, the ultrasound system is painless and avoids the risks associated with other forms of radiation, greatly enhancing physicians’ ability to establish accurate diagnoses. Among its primary applications is echocardiography, which allows doctors to monitor heart functions. Buchmueller confirmed that the equipment will be purchased and put into active service within the coming months.
Stroke Protocol Program and Record Volunteer Hours
The annual gathering also showcased the broad scope of hospital support services and community outreach:
- Stroke Protocol Program:Mary Ronayne, R.N. addressed the assembly to discuss the hospital’s specialized stroke prevention and treatment program launched the previous January. The committee evaluated approximately 200 stroke victims during the year, with about half benefiting directly from targeted therapy and treatment protocols.
- Honorary Lifetime Memberships: Former auxiliary president Elizabeth Rogers and former board member Hazel Huntson were honored with lifetime board memberships in recognition of their enduring service.
- Volunteer Service: President Jeanne Flint reported that hospital volunteers contributed an astonishing 50,992 hours of service over the past year, welcoming 72 new volunteers—notably including several men joining the ranks.
