Norwood Hospital Equipped to Broadcast Educational Medical Videotapes for Staff-August 14, 1968

Norwood Hospital is now equipped to televise pre-recorded instructional and educational videotapes for the benefit of the medical staff, nursing department and other health service professionals.

Charles A. Richardson, hospital administrator, said he expects the new educational medium will be used extensively beginning this fall. The video equipment will allow the hospital to broadcast tapes from a number of outside sources. A hospital spokesman noted that with the present equipment the hospital is unable to do any of its own taping.

Mr. Richardson also announced that despite early delays, construction of the $500,000 Norwood Hospital Intensive Care-Coronary Care Unit and Laboratory addition is now proceeding on schedule. The hospital administrator said the project should be completed sometime during the first quarter of 1969, the year which will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishing of the hospital. He noted that the hospital is considering the possibility of becoming a member of the Network for Continuing Medical Education, an organization financed by a pharmaceutical firm, which links medical schools and hospitals with the best in televised medical attention. The cost-free network provides videotapes on a regular basis which present noteworthy recent developments in medical, surgical and paramedical procedures and concepts, as described by outstanding authorities in these fields.

Mr. Richardson pointed out that videotapes will allow the hospital to bring the latest advances in medical and surgical procedures to its medical staff.
