Veterans Road Norwood Ma
Veterans housing was erected on Veterans Road, near Belleview Ave, to ease the housing crisis felt by returning veterans and their families returning from WWII. It was replaced in 1953 by the Washington Heights development on the corner of Hill street and Railroad Avenue. (Courtesy Hansen and Donahue Collection.)

The C J Maney Contracting Co. concluded work yesterday at the veterans’ project located off Winter Street.

Further labor including the care of trees, public works stock account, removal of ashes and rubbish, water and sewer construction, permanent sidewalks, grading, seeding, building of gutters and catch basins, must be completed by the town.

An article has been inserted in the warrant for the town meeting next Wednesday to see if the town will vote to raise and appropriate a sum of money to meet the additional expenses.

All but three homes in the project have been taken over by the Occupants and these families are expected to move in shortly.

This veteran, like many others, did his share in bringing about our victory and made possible the comparative peace and tranquility we now enjoy. The least he should have is a place to live so that he can once again pursue his livelihood with his family.

If anyone in Norwood or vicinity can help this family, please call Norwood 1760-W or Norwood 1234 immediately.
