A Norwood Marine stationed overseas has achieved a notable martial arts milestone, earning a Black Belt in Karate during his active military deployment.
Special Training and Overseas Deployment
Lance Cpl. John H. Wright Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wright of 31 Redwood Drive, received the Black Belt award following the successful completion of a rigorous special training course.
Cpl. Wright is currently stationed with the Marine Corps Air Wing in South Vietnam. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in September 1964.
Amid the announcement, Norwood area Marine Corps recruiter SSgt. Michael Golubosky noted an impending policy change regarding military service terms, advising that the two-year enlistment program would officially conclude after October 31, 1966. Young men interested in exploring the remaining two-year enlistment option, the 120-day delay program, or the buddy system were encouraged to visit the Marine Corps Recruiting Office at 160 Central St. in Norwood.
