Local music fans are in for an electrifying evening as the Norwood Eagles present a high-energy “Battle of the Bands” showcase on Friday night inside the Norwood Junior High School auditorium.
Event Details and Charity Beneficiary
The marquee musical event is scheduled to kick off at 7:30 p.m., with 100 percent of the performance proceeds directly benefiting the Eagles Charity Fund. The evening will highlight local teenage musical talent competing head-to-head for cash prizes and a coveted potential recording contract.
Contestants will be rigorously evaluated by a panel of professional judges based on musical knowledge, technical versatility, stage appearance, group cohesion, and individual instrumental ability. The distinguished judging panel features William Balfour, president of the Eagles aerie; Oscar Swartz, a theatrical booking agent from Worcester; and David A. Zucker, a television producer and show director. Tickets are currently available at the door and locally at Farnham Music Shop, located at 850 Washington Street.
Competing Bands and Professional Headliners
The competitive lineup features several popular local groups:
- The Gremlins: Comprising Tom Fitzgerald (lead guitar), Steve Brown (rhythm guitar), Scott Perry (bass), and Fred Hagalon (drums).
- The Centurions: Featuring Charlie Carshedi (lead guitar), Pete Barry (organ), George Harris (bass), Larry Bergen (drums), and Don Gemella (saxophone and vocals).
- The Tormented Times: Featuring Richie Machatto (lead guitar), Wayne Richard (rhythm guitar), Eddie Mercier (bass), Larry McGuire (drums), and Bob Alexander (organ).
Adding major star power to the bill, the evening will feature a professional stage show headlined by Teddy and the Pandas alongside The Invaders, making their Norwood debut. Teddy and the Pandas boast an impressive professional resume, including hit singles, appearances on the Gene Pitney Tour, two guest spots on ABC’s Where the Action Is hosted by Dick Clark, past engagements at prominent venues like Boston’s The Place and Rhode Island’s Newport, and active negotiations for upcoming network television specials and a feature film.
