The first two men from the Norfolk Counts, area to file applications with the local Marine Recruiter for the “Tri-County Marine Platoon, ’ are Robert Hubbard, and David Bennett.
Both young men attended Not wood High Schoo) and also work at the local Stop And Shop. They enlisted in the Mannes for three years and have their sights etc for some of the excellent schools that the Marine Corps is now offering Both boys expressed a desire to go to electricians school upon completion of boot training. Both of these men have also served over a year in the Marine Air Reserve Squadron at the Weymouth Naval Air Station and were members of Marine Air Squadron 332.
Although these two men have enlisted for a three-year tour of duty with the Marines, they are among the minority to do so, as over seventy percent of the applications received to date have been for the two-year enlistment that seems to be so popular with the young men today. In addition to being able to enlist in the Mannes for two years, some of the special advantages this platoon offers are- all men will leave on the same date, remain together throughout their basic training, come home on leave as a group, and, most important of all, this platoon is being enlisted and sworn in at such a date that all of the men are assured of having completed their training and being home in time to enjoy the Christmas Holidays
Now is the time to act if you desire to go with this platoon and men from around your own hometown Applications are being accepted at the Norwood Post Office in Room 205 daily on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9.30 a.m to 5.00 p.m., and the Brockton Post Office daily and Saturdays. During the week of September Sth through the 15th applications will be accepted daily at the Brockton Fair Grounds. The 15th of September will be the deadline for applications for the special platoon.
If for any reason any interested person cannot contact the local Marine Recruiter at any of the above-mentioned locations a telephone call to WOodlawn 3-6017, Staff Sergeant Harvey’s residence, will enable you to make arrangements for a night time interview at your home.
