— Police Chief was notified Wednesday that his son, , 20, was killed Saturday at Quang Tri Province, .

He was attached to Company M, He was with 3rd Battalion 4th Marines, and had been twice wounded prior to being killed. He had been recommended for the Vietnamese medal for gallantry in action at Hill 552.

A graduate of Norwood High , he was the second oldest of 10 children of Chief Murphy. His father and mother, both former Marines, met and married while in the Corps during .

He was the sixth Norwood boy to lose his life in Vietnam.
