Leonard, A.M.M. 3/C of the U.S.N.R., has received a citation from his commanding officer for “commendable performance of duty in disregard of his personal safety, in dueling airplanes and expeditiously securing the gasoline system while the ship was in action against the enemy during the Battle of the Philippine Sea.”
Leonard.- who is the son of Mrs. Bridget Leonard of Hill street, Norwood, entered the Navy in June, 1942. He received his basic training at the Newport Naval Training Station and Quonset Point, R, I. Following his training,he was a storekeeper on an airplane carrier and also saw service in the South Atlantic.
