
Norwood police surprised a surprise party being held In the woods in the rear of the Endean Playground on Saturday night.
And when the commotion had died down, eight Norwood youths were at the Norwood police station along with their parents and two cruiser car loads of barbecue edibles and four cases of beer had been confiscated.
At 9:25 pm. several residents of the area called the police station to report the loud goings on in the woods and the police went into action.
Led by Lt. James Murphy, Patrolmen Uno Carlson, George Sanborn, Vito Dicicco and Paul Fulton, crashed the party and supplied the additional surprise to the guest of honor who was being feted by a group of friends on the eve of his entering the Air Force.
The group scattered in all directions on the approach of the police, but were soon rounded up and carted off to the police station. Their names were obtained and their parents called to the station house. After an exchange of pleasantries all around, the boys were released in the custody of their parents with the parents to decide on a fitting punishment.
The Norwood police raiding party all admitted that they, too, were young once but were concerned with the presence of beer at the teen-age party.
The Boston police were contacted by Lt. Murphy when It was learned that the beer had been purchased at a Roxbury bottled goods store in violation of the sale of beer to minors.
Just what, became of 200 ears of corn, several pounds of hot dogs and hamburger to say nothing of the dozens of rolls, mustard and relish and sundry articles confiscated by the police has not been resolved.
