This Day in Norwood History-April 12, 1962-New Nahatan Drug Store Stresses Quality, Savings

A giant three-day grand-opening sale is now in progress at the new Nahatan Drug Store at the Star Market Shopping Center in Norwood. Low prices and high quality are the policy of this new Walgreen Agency Store, and shoppers can make selections and compare value at their leisure, from more than 40 varied departments, all heavily stocked with a wide selection of commodities.

On either side of the huge air-conditioned store are shelves attractively filled with complete lines of cosmetics, toiletries, dental needs, health aids, hair preparations, medications, vitamins, as well as departments for films and cameras, candy, and smoking needs. A special baby department holds a full line of canned baby foods as well as infants’ needs, making an efficient one-stop department for the busy mother.

Self-service counters and cabinets In the store’s midsection are stocked with glassware, toys, gifts, electrical appliances, school supplies, housewares, gifts and greeting cards, luggage, costume jewelry, stationery, first aid and hospital supplies, sundries, kitchen needs, pet supplies, luggage, and dozens of other Items too numerous to list.

In the rear of the store, away from the busy store traffic, is the prescription department, serviced by the top pharmaceutical houses in the country. With the latest in pharmaceutical equipment and a wide stock of drugs, the department reflects the store’s continuing emphasis on the compounding of prescriptions “as the most important aspect of our business.”

Added features for customer convenience is a self-service ice cream cabinet, constantly well-stocked with a national brand of ice cream. Almost 2,000 pints of Ice cream will be carried In reserve supply in special refrigerated storage to keep the cabinets stocked.

The store has wide roomy aisles and shelves designed to allow shoppers to make purchases without uncomfortable stooping or reaching.
