Rainwater leaked through the roofs of the Cleveland School and Prescott School last week while contractors were conducting active repairs, but town officials expect both buildings to be fully repaired and ready when schools open next month.
According to John P. Maleiko, supervisor of grounds and buildings, the water intrusion damaged roof insulation, ceiling tiles, and possibly floor tiles in a corridor of the Cleveland School, while ceiling tiles were slightly damaged at the Prescott School. Maleiko explained that the Ceasar Roofing Co. was replacing roofing material on the Cleveland and repairing gutters and roof edges at the Prescott when a sudden rainstorm hit. He noted that workers covered the exposed areas of the roofs with plastic, but the water got through anyway.
Maleiko, who was scheduled to report on the damage to the school committee that evening, confirmed that the Ceasar Roofing Co. will pay for all repair costs. He stated that the school department has made no estimate of the cost of the damage because it will not have to pay for the repairs. Furthermore, Maleiko said the firm assured him the damage would be repaired before schools open for the new academic year. (Reporting by local archives).
