Disability Pension Approved Under Heart Bill As New York Captain Arthur V. Deutesh Prepares To Assume Command
Police Chief James F. Curran, who has been on injured leave for a month, will be officially retired June 30, Town Manager John J. Carroll told selectmen last night.
John J. Carroll said he had been notified earlier yesterday by the town’s contributory retirement board that James F. Curran’s application for disability retirement under the Heart Bill had been approved.
The town’s new police chief, New York Police Captain Arthur V. Deutesh, probably will take over around Aug. 1, John J. Carroll said. Originally scheduled to begin around July 1, Arthur V. Deutesh delayed his New York City retirement because of uncertainty over how long it would take the medical panel to act on James F. Curran, John J. Carroll said. “We tried to get the medical panel to meet as soon as possible,” John J. Carroll said later when asked if James F. Curran’s application, made only a month ago, had been dispatched with unusual speed. John J. Carroll said Arthur V. Deutesh wants to talk with selectmen in early July, and the selectmen agreed. Acting Chief John J. Wall will continue to lead the department until then.
