Board Takes Action on Epicurean Delights, Headquarters Cafe, Cafe Venice, and Aaron Guild School Space Requests
During a bustling meeting on August 8, 1979, town selectmen addressed a packed agenda of local licensing and municipal administrative matters.
Among the key actions, the board scheduled a public hearing for September 4 to show cause why the liquor license held by Epicurean Delights in South Norwood should not be revoked, noting that the restaurant had remained closed for business for several months.
Additionally, selectmen set a September 4 meeting with the manager of the Headquarters Cafe, also in South Norwood, to review troubling police reports concerning two recent fights in or around the establishment. On a positive note regarding local dining, the board approved an extension of the liquor license held by Cafe Venice to encompass a newly constructed room, contingent upon full compliance with zoning board stipulations.
In other municipal business, selectmen agreed to route all incoming requests for storage and meeting space within the closed Aaron Guild School directly through Town Manager John J. Carroll. Meanwhile, Assistant Town Manager Bernard Cooper provided updates on federal grant preparations, noting that while filing for the Sumner-Union streets playground by the August 31 deadline remained a top priority, potential neighborhood complications required careful navigation.
