Undefeated Norwood Gridsters Sweep Over, Under, and Around Red Raiders
At Municipal Stadium on Saturday afternoon, coach Benny Murray‘s undefeated Norwood High School football team delivered a dominant performance, routing the visiting North Quincy High School Red Raiders to the tune of 45-0.
While Norwood likely had no intention of running up a lopsided tally against an outweighed North Quincy squad, a weird series of forward-pass interceptions and defensive miscues paved the way for long-distance scoring runs. Stalled occasionally by gritty North Quincy linemen through the center, Norwood’s roaring backs found it comparatively simple to swing around the ends for gains of 15 to 50 yards at a clip, ultimately generating seven touchdowns and three placement points.
For North Quincy, the afternoon added another gloomy chapter to a difficult season. Yet despite the score, the Red Raiders never quit, continuing to fight for a touchdown late into the fourth period. Fifteen-year-old, 122-pound speedster Danny Dunlop provided bright spots for the visitors with aggressive open-field running, offering hope for future seasons. In the opening frame, North Quincy played a tight defensive game, highlighted by a pass interception from Gallagher that halted an early Norwood drive.
