Basic Training at Fort Dix

Frank Bilotta, a 22-year-old resident of 82 Cross Street, has been assigned to L Company, 2nd Training Regiment at Fort Dix, New Jersey, for eight weeks of infantry basic training under the 1955 Reserve Forces Act. During his active-duty service, Bilotta will receive instruction in general military subjects, infantry weapons and tactics, and character guidance programs. Following his initial basic training and a two-week leave, he will complete eight weeks of advanced training before fulfilling the remainder of his six-month active-duty commitment by transferring to hometown duty with an Army Reserve or National Guard unit. Bilotta previously attended Norwood High School and Boston University, where his brother Vincent Bilotta also studied.

ROTC Marksmanship at Fort Belvoir

Meanwhile, at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Charles J. Jurgelewicz of 110 Sumner Street has earned “Expert,” “Sharpshooter,” and “Marksman” ratings during summer training with his Northeastern University ROTC unit. Competing against cadets from colleges and universities across the country using the M-1 rifle, Jurgelewicz successfully navigated a rigorous qualification course involving precision firing from standing, sitting, kneeling, and prone positions, as well as rapid-fire transitions.

Professional Advancement at Home

In local civilian-military milestones, John W. Murphy, a resident of 203 Richland Road, has been granted certification for completing a rigorous two-year accounting curriculum at the Boston Division of the Massachusetts University Extension. Murphy balances his advanced professional studies with his career serving the community as Assistant Postmaster at the Norwood Post Office.
