Milton Comes To Town With 14 Losses In Row
The surprise of the Bay State League this season, Norwood High, will try to stump the experts again as they prepare to meet Milton High this Saturday at the H. Bennett Murray Field. Milton has lost 14 in a row, but gave undefeated Wellesley a hard time last week.
Norwood’s pride and joy have blossomed out since first workouts early in September. They beat highly-rated Framingham last Saturday. Defensive linebacker Les Marchard recovered two loose balls that were eventually converted into touchdowns, Pete Dixon has punted for a 47.3 average, and Tony Grinavic has scored 3 T.D.’s In as many games to spearhead the Norwood drive.
The offensive line, averaging 135 pounds a man, has been a pleasant surprise to Coach Andy Seafati and ’ Is colleagues.
This game Saturday should be a good one to watch The opening kickoff will be at 1.30 p.m.
Fold In Second Half
Milton, on the other hand, has had little to cheer about in their first three games this Fall. They have dropped all three by scores of 33-13, 13-0, and 27-13. Their attack has been good in the first half, but collapsed in the final two periods. Wellesley found themselves behind to the Maroon-and-White of Milton, 13-0 last Saturday at halftime, but rebounded with four touchdowns in the second half to win, 27-13.
The Milton crew, coached by George Ramacorti, have a better team than the statistics show Dave Richards, a 6-foot 2-inch quarterback, has looked well as leather tosser this year. With a 230 lineman in Gerry Hauser and a 208 converted fullback by the name of Bob Fletcher, the squad certainly isn’t lacking in weight. Despite the poor record. Milton will be no pushover for the Scafatimen on Saturday and should provide the fans with some good football.
Odds ‘n Ends
“Second-half sensations” would be a good definition for the Norwood squad so far this year. The Scafatimen have scored 40 of their 53 points during the last two quarters. Here is a quarter-by-quarter breakdown of scoring for Norwood and their previous opponents.
In the top game of the league card this week, Natick is playing host to Wellesley. Both teams are tied with Noiwood, scoring wins in their first three matches. Natick, possibly the stronger of the two, has taken Milton, East Providence, and Braintree. They have amassed 91 points and have had 25 scored against them. Wellesley has defeated Andover, Dedham, and Milton. hi any event, that game should be a big one. Good old Norwood High still has the best defensive record in the BSL. Only 18 points have been scored against them. Braintree is runner-up with 20 points against them. As a review, Norwood came from behind to beat Milton last year, 19-12. Norwood scored two touchdowns in the final two minutes, both T.D.’s thrown from the hands of this year’s leather tosser, Eddie Feeney.
