A boon to the “in a hurry” shopper is the new and modern self-service meat department recently installed in the Norwood A & P Supermarket on Cottage and Central streets.

The shopper, who wishes to make a small purchase, no longer is forced to stand in line for ten minutes on a busy Friday or Saturday afternoon or evening. He may purchase any and practically all meats and poultry at the new self-service department without waiting.

Here, wrapped in moisture proof cellophane, are choice cuts of roast, steaks, pork chops, broilers and chickens already dressed, hams and all sorts of delicatessen specialties. The customer can see the product, easily get the price from an attached tag that shows the exact weight, price per pound and the total price, put it in the basket and pay on the way out All of the unnecessary waiting for service is eliminated.

The moisture-proof cellophane wrapping and the special refrigerated case that keeps a uniform temperature of 36 to 38 degrees, ensures a fresh and clean product.

The innovation, first attempted in the Jamaica Plain Supermarket, met with such success that more help was needed to handle the increased business.
