Norwood Pilot Wins Awards By Action In African and Mediterranean Theatres

Word has come that the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with two clusters have been awarded to Lt. George T Lee, 26 Rock Street, Norwood, who is a member of the 87th Fighter Squadron which has been passing the Axis in the Mediterranean theatre for months now.

On July 1st, Lt. Lee received his First Lieutenant’s commission. On the same day, he was awarded the air medal with two clusters. On July 13th he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Lt. Lee was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Force and received his wings on August 5th, 1942. He left for overseas duty that October. In the famous mosquito squadron, he was one of those who badgered Rommel’s forces in Africa.

Lt. Lee now is loading an element, section of a flight, in his fighter squadron.
