Norwood’s basketball team for the coming year should be one of the tops in the league, and a big reason for the expected improvement is Varsity Coach Ken Nolet. This is Ken’s 3rd year as head coach for the school on the hill and the boys on this years team are all Ken’s own lads.
Nolet was born in Taunton and at an early age moved to the Cape where he played high school basketball for Provincetown High. In two of his four years as a member of the hoop squad, Provincetown won the State Class C championship. Nolet made the Class C All-Scholastic team his last two years at Provincetown. Following high school, he entered the Navy for four years and served with the seventh fleet in the Korean area. Mr. Nolet attended Northeastern where he continued playing basketball as a regular guard for three years.
Nolet has also worked for the State Department. He and Northeastern Coach Duke Duckshire conducted basketball clinics all over Europe.
He has been assistant varsity coach at Northeastern for the past seven years.
Nolet is an economics teacher at the High School. He resides in Framingham with his wife and two children.
Ken feels that this is the year to make up for a lot of key losses over the past three years. For the first time his team has depth, height, and speed As Coach Nolet puts it, these are the three qualities a winning team needs and this could be Norwood’s year.
The Locals open the season next Tuesday at home against Wellesley at the Norwood High Gym, with starting time 3:30 p.m.
