Westover was originally the dream of George Willett. A completely planned community, using more efficient building methods with lower costs and high standards in layout, traffic control, architecture, and landscaping, it included the adjacent 25 acre Willett Pond for fishing, boating and other recreational facilities. All 2000 acres of Westover would have been planned in advance for efficiency.
George Willett tried unsuccessfully to get the project financed for decades, but the Westover Corporation finally went bankrupt in 1954. Development under the new owners started the following year.
