Early Intervention program in Norwood helps children from birth to three years old with developmental delays.
The Early Intervention program is a Norwood-based initiative sponsored by local and state health organizations. It provides services for children in the towns of Canton, Dedham, Foxboro, Medfield, Millis, Norfolk, Norwood, Plainville, Sharon, Walpole, Westwood, and Wrentham.

Parents can contact Sue Biagini at the Norwood office of the South Norfolk County Association for Retarded Citizens to learn more about the program. The program begins with a developmental assessment of the child and may include home visits with counseling, education, sharing of resource information, demonstration of positioning, behavior management, and other therapeutic techniques.
The home-visiting team consists of social workers, occupational therapists, special education teachers, and speech and language therapists who work with the child to improve gross motor, fine motor, language, social, self-help, and cognitive development.
Mrs. Biagini stressed that the program is not just for children with developmental delays but also for those who are developing skills at a slower rate than normal. Early intervention can often result in a total solution to a developmental problem.
Parents are more comfortable learning exercises for their children in their own environment, making the learning process easier for the child, Mrs. Biagini said.
