Contests for Town Meeting Members in eight of the town’s nine voting districts were indicated this week with the release at the Town Clerk’s Office of the lists of candidates who have met the deadline for filing.
Only District 8 is without a contest, and here there is a sufficient number of candidates for the seven three-year terms and the two one-year terms to be filled at the polls on January 21st.
Biggest field is in District 4 where there are 16 candidates for six three-year terms.
Eleven incumbent Town Meeting Members whose terms are expiring are not seeking re-election. Most of those who are seeking re-election had notified the Town Clerk of their intentions by December 10. Other candidates must have filed their nomination papers by December 17th. Those in the latter category must now recover their papers and file them a second time with the Town Clerk by next Monday night at 5 p.m. if their names are to appear on the ballot in January.
