Youngsters attempted to expend their pent-up energies in a most unorthodox manner one evening last week when they started to use one of the big bronze lamp-posts on the terrace of the Morrill Memorial Library as a gymnasium. They shinnied up it once too often.

While swinging from the bar beneath the cluster of plate-glass lantern, their weight overbalanced the massive post and it tipped over. The drop from the edge of the stone terrace to the lawn is about five feet. The lanterns were broken, the glass smashed and the electric wiring broken.

This magnificent light is one of a pair which George H. Morrill presented to the town with the library. Its value is high. It is 47 years old and it is possible that the plate glass and broken metal parts can no longer be obtained. If they can, it is going to cost the taxpayers quite a few dollars for repairs.
