Building Committee Chairman Alec Abdallah Outlines Plans for Three Classrooms, Auditorium, and Cafeteria
Plans for the $300,000 Balch School addition program must pass three formal requirements before actual construction plans can be advanced. Building Committee Chairman Alec Abdallah said the first step would come at next Thursday’s special town meeting, when the assembly will be asked to give the committee the authority to supervise the construction of the addition. The second step, he said, will come later when the plans will be submitted to the Massachusetts School Building Assistance Commission for reimbursement in state aid, which would amount to about $120,000.
The committee will then submit the program to the Massachusetts Emergency Finance Board, which must clear it because it represents a large capital expenditure for the town. Mr. Abdallah said he would be unable to say when the plans would go out on bid. However, he added that the program would be advanced as quickly as possible. The addition will add three classrooms, an auditorium, and a cafeteria to the Balch School facility.
