NORWOOD, March 24 — At a special town meeting tonight In Everett Hall, from 7 to 8, it was voted to establish a permanent fire chief. As there is a “call chief” at the present time, this means that the entire department will have to be organized. It was also voted to buy a combination police patrol and ambulance for the Police Department. At 8 o’clock this meeting was adjourned to April 2 and the adjourned town meeting of last December taken up.

The report of the Finance Commission on the town budget was heard without comment and $1,262,620 was appropriated for the expenses of the town. As a result of this appropriation, the tax rate of the town will be raised from $26.50 to $28 per 1000.

It was voted to hold a special town meeting sometime soon on the proposed new municipal building. The largest number of citizens were present at the meeting in the history of the town. Judge James Halloran, associate justice of the Dedham Court, was moderator.
