In June of 1941, three young musicians from Wilson Street — known locally as The Singing Sansone Sisters — were quickly becoming one of Norwood’s most charming and talked‑about musical acts. Marie Sansone, age 10, seated confidently at the piano, and her older sisters Jean Sansone, 13, and Grace Sansone, 15, standing beside her, had already built a reputation as a polished singing and instrumental trio. The daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Sansone of Wilson Street, the girls were in steady demand at private parties, club meetings, and lodge events throughout town.
Each sister brought her own musical specialty to the ensemble. Grace Sansone, the eldest, played the violin with a maturity beyond her years. Jean Sansone performed on the clarinet, adding depth and color to the trio’s arrangements. Marie Sansone, the youngest, anchored the group at the piano, providing both rhythm and melody. Their musical training was split between schools: Marie Sansone was a student at Norwood High School, while Grace Sansone and Jean Sansone attended the Junior High School.
What made the Sansone Sisters particularly impressive was their independence and creativity. They arranged their own versions of popular melodies — a rare skill for musicians so young — and performed them with confidence and charm. Their blend of instrumental talent and vocal harmony made them a standout act in Norwood’s pre‑war social scene.
The sisters spoke openly of their ambitions: once their schooling was complete, they hoped to take their act to the stage professionally. With their talent, discipline, and growing local following, many in Norwood believed they would succeed.
The photograph, credited to Surette Photo, captures the trio at a moment when youthful promise and musical aspiration were perfectly aligned — a snapshot of Norwood’s cultural life on the eve of America’s entry into World War II.
