A simple but impressive ceremony marked the promotion exercises of the Sunday School grades of the Religious School of Temple Shaare Tefilah, Norwood, on Sunday, May 28th.
Mr. Samuel Spector, Director presented the children with certificates of promotion and congratulated them on their fine work throughout the year. Certificates for Trees of Israel were also awarded at this time.
Children receiving “diplomas” included: Jolyn Greene, Linda Kosen, Phyllis Cushing, Joyce Kauffman, Susan Saver, and Judy Hershman— Alice Blumenthal, Teacher.
First grade—Carol Miller, Carol Burtman, Stuart Wigon, Lois Ofstein, Jeffrey Borr, and Nason KapIan, Mrs. Irvine Sall, Teacher.
Second grade — Sandra Borr, Lucy Kaplan, Stephen Rittenberg, Jerry Small, Arlene Alter, and Bernard Cooper—Mrs. Hyman Rubin. Teacher.
Third grade—Bruce Kauffman, Marshall Rittenberg, Sheldon Small, Maxine Cushing, Patricia Greene, Susan Klein, Warren and Harold Rubin—Mrs. Samuel Wigon, Teacher.
Hebrew School Classes ending on June 24th, include Robert Greene, Marianne Cooper, Robert Blumenthal, Bruce Blumenthal, Philip Goldman, Paul Klein, Michael Ward, Frank Kauffman, and Lawrence Rubin, first confirmant to receive his training in the Temple Shaare Tefilah Religious School, under its present system.
Under the able direction of Mr. Spector, adult classes have also been conducted throughout the year, in Customs and Ceremonies, and in Hebrew and Prayers. A small but active Teen-Age Group has the following slate of officers: Stanley Adelstein, President; Dorothy Portman. Secretary, and Alice Blumenthal, Treasurer.
Herbert S. Taube, newly elected 2nd Vice President, Temple Shaare Tefilah Men’s Congregation, will head the School Board for the ensuing year. Mr. Taube, a native of New York State, attended Hebrew Schools of higher learning in New York City. While in the Army of the United States, he organized, conducted, and arranged for teaching the religious services in New Guinea.
Assisting Mr. Taube, as a representative of the Norwood Jewish Women’s Council, is their newly-elected 2nd Vice President, Mrs. Jordan F. Kauffman, long active in civic affairs in Norwood.
