Local 343, American Federation of Musicians, celebrated its 50th Anniversary at the Norwood Elks Club Tuesday night.

One hundred and thirty-five members and gnosis enjoyed a fine dinner, excellent entertainment, and dancing.

Greetings and a large bouquet were received from President Petrillo.

Present as guests of Local 343 were: Exalted Ruler Uturka and Mrs. Utorka of the Norwood Lodge of Elks, Chairman of Elks House Committee Ed Wisniewski, Bill Guile of Workmen’s Hall, and Mrs. Guile. Also President Jones of Local 138 Brockton, Sec. Curtis of Local 138. Pres, and Mrs. Nardueci of Local 319. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Lee from Wings Club and Mr. and Mrs. Cierri of Shady Nook. President Doyle of CLU, Norwood, conveyed his organization’s well wishes. Past President John Reynolds and Mrs. Reynolds and Past Secretary McManus expressed great pleasure at being present.

Carmine D. Mazzola was presented a life membership by Secretary Neyland in recognition of his many successful years as band director of Local 343 and many other bands in and around Norwood and Boston. He was also recently honored by being “guest conductor” of the famous Farm and Trade School Band in a concert at Faneuil Hall, Boston.

Pres. Patnaude, V. Pres.. L. Bedard, Jr., and Sec Treas Neviand headed the Committee in charge and were assisted by the Board of Directors.

Sixteen new members were obligated by Pres. Patnaude at the dinner and were introduced. Honorary members present, were Helen Neyland, Bill Lucey, Carl Smith, Art Hauck, M McManus, J. Reynolds, L. T. Lee, Jr., who has recently returned from duty with the Navy in the Pacific was introduced and welcomed back to the membership.
