RETIRED POSTMASTER HONORED — Fred Adelmann, retired Norwood postmaster was given a testimonial banquet last night at the Elk’s Club with 150 In attendance. A large gathering of 150 citizens and visiting postal officials paid honor to retired Postmaster Fred M. Adelmann at the Elks Club last night.

Headed by Most Rev. Jeremiah F. Minihan, Bishop-Designate of the Boston Archdiocese, Clarence Weibel, Chief Post Office Inspector for New England, and Harry B. Butters of the Norwood Selectmen, all paid glowing tribute to the former postmaster.

Mr. Adelmann’s interest In civic affairs and his work for his church were strongly praised by the Bishop as the mark of a truly Christian gentleman.

Mr. Weibel cited the fact that if all postal employees had been as faithful to their duties as Mr. Adelmann, there would be no need for postal inspectors.

Mr. Butters stated that although the former Postmaster was employed by a different political entity than the town of Norwood, his service was as great to the town as it was to his government,

Albin K. Parkers, former Norwood Postmaster, lauded Mr. Adelmann’s career and praised him for his assistance of former years when he was superintendent of mails.

Other guests included: James F. Brennan, postmaster of North Attleboro, and state president of the Postmasters Association; John J. O’Brien, postmaster of Bridgewater, and slate secretery of postmasters; Paul Cleary, Grand Knight of the Norwood Knights of Columbus; Joseph Frates, president of the Norwood Chamber of Commerce.

The Rev. Edmund Miller of the United Church gave the invocation and spoke warmly of Mr. Adelmann’s fine public service.

A highlight of the affair was a letter sending his blessing to all assembled by Mr. Adelmann’s son. the Rev. Frederick. J. Adelmann, S.J., of St. Louis University.

A gift was presented to the guest of honor by the chairman in behalf of all those friends of Mr. Adelmann who paid this fine tribute to him.

Sture Nelson, Norwood’s new acting postmaster, cited Mr. Adelmann’s fine record and tendered the congratulations of Mrs. Nelson and himself to the guest of honor.
