Norwood High journeyed to Natick Monday to play the final game of the ’53 season and With the Bay State Pennant in sight, Dick Bunker hurled his first no-hit game of the season as Norwood posted a 2-0 victory.

Sophomore Pots Renzi provided the big punch as he rapped out a single with two in the sixth inning; to score the only runs of the game. Norwood was weak at the plate as they rapped out only three hits with both ruas being o£ the unearned variety and coming through the gift o£ a base on balls and an infield error.

Dick Bunker was at his finest as he fanned 17 over the brief seven-inning route and racked up his first no-hitter of the year. Bunker only had one ball hit out of the infield and that was a routine fly to John Cieri in left field. The lanky southpaw poured the! ball past the first eight men that faced him and fanned the side in the first, second, and fifth innings.

Bunker’s overall record for the season is now ten wins and one loss with the only loss coming in the Tournament at Fenway Park in which he definitely had an off day. He has fanned 180 and allowed only 28 walks over the brief season that he pitched.

Bunker was also one of the big stick men for Norwood as he walloped the ball at a .380 clip for his third year in a row over three fifty.

Norwood’s Dickie Bunker who pitched a no-hitter against Natick last Monday, .fanned 17 and shut out Natick 20 In a neatly pitched game ending his high school career. Against Somerville last week in the EMASS play-offs ha must have been off stride. But the local fans are still wishing he had been sharper against the Somerville team

Winning 10 of his 11 starts Bunker is easily a top schoolboy choice for the All-Star team soon to be picked by the sportswriters. He won the Bay State League baseball title for Norwood edging Needham In the final standings by a single game.

One other note on Norwood High baseball Is that Jackie Brissette pitched a no-hitter for the Jayvees earlier In the season, and lost a 20-game while his mates failed to get some runs. This fact went unnoticed until too late. So, this column wishes to pay the Iwirlcr a belated tribute.
