
Two Norwood policemen were bitten by a 14-year-oid Roslindale youth and required hospital treatment after they apprehended the youth attempting to break into a South Norwood cafe early Monday morning. Another youth said to be a Norwood resident who was with the Roslindale boy escaped but is known to the police and will be hailed into court.
At 1:40 a m. police were notified that a break was being made in the rear of the American Lunch on Washington street in South Norwood. Patrolmen William Wall and William Costello responded. As they approached the building, two youths darted from a bulkhead door and started running.
Patrolman Wall chased one of the youths and placed him in custody. While walking to the cruiser with the youth, the latter allegedly tried to escape and bit Patrolman Wall on the left hand .
The youth was sub dued and turned over to Patrolman Costello while Patrolman Wall went in search of the other boy. Patrolman Costello was putting the boy into the cruiser when he also was allegedly bitten on the left hand. Both patrolmen were given antitetanus shots at the hospital. Meanwhile, the name of the boy who escaped was learned by the police and a summons is being issued for his apprehension.
The Walpole police came to the assistance of the Norwood police when it was learned that the area was being searched for the boy who fled.
The Roslindale boy is a former Norwood resident. He was ordered held in $1000 bail on his appearance in the Juvenile Court on Monday morning and turned over to the Youth Service Board until a continued hearing next Monday.
The Norwood boy who escaped from the police at the time will also appear -in the Juvenile Court at the continued hearing next Monday.
