Pastor Plans Beautiful New Home For Nuns

Construction Will Take Eight Months

Demolition of old buildings in back of St. Catherine’s Parochial School to make way for the construction of a new convent began this week. Approximately eight months will be required to complete the new structure which, harmonizing with present parish buildings, will make the St. Catherines church buildings outstanding for beauty and completeness.

The new convent has been carefully planned by Monsignor Joseph C. Walsh, pastor of the church. In harmony with other church structures and faced with the same brick, the building will provide 24 nuns’ rooms, a chapel, community room, library, four parlors, large dining room, music room, and kitchen.

Fronting on Nahatan Street, the property will extend back to Fairbanks Lane. In a court between the wing of the new building and the school, a garden is planned.

Since the building of the school and the increase in the number of Sisters as teachers, living quarters in the old convent have been crowded. During construction the Sisters will live in quarters in the school.

Monsignor Walsh hat worked untiringly to devise and execute the best possible plans for the new building, planning a structure which will immeasurably enhance not alone the appearance but also the facilities of the church properties. The Bossi Construction Company of Boston have been awarded the contract for the construction of the building.
